Embargoes

An embargo links a lift date to a specific document, so you can track when embargoed material is cleared to go public and who's already been sent it. It's worth understanding upfront what this feature is not:

Nothing happens automatically when the lift date passes. Envoy doesn't hide, lock, or publish anything based on an embargo - the linked document's own publish workflow is completely independent of it, and there's nothing stopping a document from being sent or published before its embargo lifts. An embargo is a reminder and a record, not a gate.

Creating one

From the Embargoes page, pick an existing document and set its lift date, with optional notes. Active embargoes show a countdown badge - "Lifts today," "Lifts tomorrow," or a day count - that turns from green to amber inside a week out, then red on the day it actually lifts, and moves to a "Lifted" section once it's passed.

Tracking recipients

Each embargo has its own recipient list, separate from any campaign's pitch status - log who you've briefed under embargo and when, so you have a record of exactly who had early access if you need to check it later.

On the calendar

Lift dates appear on the content calendar as "Embargo lifts: {document title}" - useful for seeing upcoming lifts alongside your other scheduled PR activity.
